Now, diabetes is such an epidemic. Research shows that every 2 of 100 people have diabetes. Most of them did not realize that they have it. To prevent you having diabetes, you should know what is diabetes, know the symptoms and recognize if you have it.

What is Diabetes? – Definition of Diabetes

What causes diabetes is the inability of the body to process sugars properly. When we eat or drink something, our pancreas produce “insulin” – a hormone. The insulin will be released into the blood to regulate the amount of sugar (glucose) in the bloodstream. Diabetes is a condition if this process did not function properly.

There are 2 types of diabetes:

  • Type 1 Diabetes

Diabetes type that suffered by people who has no insulin produced by the pancreas. People who suffer type 1 diabetes will need to use insulin injections.

  • Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes type that suffered by people which has their body is rejecting the insulin that produced by the pancreas. People who suffer type 2 diabetes become more and more common.

On the long run people who have diabetes will have problem their organs, including kidneys, eyes, nerves and their heart. Moreover, most people with diabetes did not recognize that they have it, because diabetes is not immediately life threatening. Some people often diagnosed to have diabetes from routine medical check-up. The real danger lied on the long term effect, the uncontrolled diabetes and high blood sugar will damage one’s health.

The diabetes treatments is simple but actually hard to do. Basically they need to control the blood sugar by combining medicine, exercises, and doing the diabetic diet. The hard part is since its incurable, they will need to do it for the rest of their life in order to reduce the complications.

The simplest way to know whether you have diabetes is by making appointment with a doctor to do blood sugar check. This is done by taking a tiny sample of your blood and then checks it with a device.

Diabetes will be diagnosed if you don’t have normal blood sugar level. A normal sugar blood level is between 72 – 126 mg/dl or 4 – 7 mmol/l (where 1 mmol/l = 18mg/dl).

People often go to check their blood sugar level because they feel that they experiencing the diabetes symptoms.  These are the early symptoms diabetes:

  • Loss of Weight
  • Constant Thirst
  • Urinating more often

If you feel that you are experiencing those symptoms, it is advised to check your blood sugar level to your doctor. If you are diagnosed to have diabetes, at some points it will change your life, but you can still enjoy it. Although it’s currently incurable, they have treatments for it.
