Causes of Type 1 Diabetes
Causes of type 1 diabetes are still unclear according to the researchers. Basically what happened is the pancreas did not produce enough insulin because the body own auto-immune system attack insulin production cells in the langerhans islets.
Researcher thinks that there are few causes of type 1 diabetes that destroy the islets. After the islets are broken the pancreas did not produce or produce to little insulin. The insulin are the hormone who helps glucose enter the cells to provide energy to the muscle and tissues. It will lowering the sugar amount in the bloodstream.
Few causes of type 1 diabetes:
- Causes of type 1 diabetes : genetic factor
If someone has a first-degree family member that has diabetes the he/she will have higher probability to also have diabetes type 1. The odds for also having diabetes are 10% and 33% for twins. Father who has diabetes type 1 it has bigger probability to make his child inherit the disease.
However, genetic factor did not explain the development of diabetes completely.
- Causes of type 1 diabetes : viruses
Researchers have found evidences that virus infections also become the cause. Certain viruses can make the immune system responded by attacking the insulin production in the pancreas.
One of the viruses that called Coxsackieviruses has been studied and associated with diabetes type 1. This virus is fairy common among children, most children get recovered with no lingering effect within few days. But, who doesn’t get more serious consequences.
- Causes of type 1 diabetes : other conditions
Other researcher suggest that other conditions such as environmental factors can increased the risk for diabetes type 1. Few factors such as certain drugs, damaged pancreas, genetic disorders and hormonal disorders.
The exact cause of diabetes type 1 is not found yet.
